FONAR'S 24TH STAND-UP MRI INSTALLED
IN DALLAS-FORT WORTH
MELVILLE, NEW
YORK, December 9, 2003 - FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR), The
MRI Specialist™, announced today that the first Stand-Up™
MRI center in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex opened for
business on December 1, 2003. This is the second of twenty (20)
Stand-Up™ MRI centers that MRI of America is planning
to open in the Southwest region of the United States. Doing
business as Stand-Up MRI of America, the center is located at
14320 Midway Road, Suite 100, in Dallas, Texas [972-361-0674].
Mr.
Robert Conger, CEO of all the MRI of America entities, said,
"We are pleased to be first in the Dallas-Fort Worth area
to offer Position™ MRI, which allows patients to be scanned
in their positions of pain or other symptoms. Before the Stand-Up™
MRI was introduced, patients had no choice but to have their
scans done lying down. From the experience at our first Stand-Up™
MRI center, we have confirmed that certain kinds of pathology
can be underestimated, mischaracterized, or can go entirely
undetected when the patient is scanned only in a lie-down position.
For many patients, the Stand-Up™ MRI is the only diagnostic
equipment that will give their doctors the complete picture
of what they need to know."
John
Stetenfeld, Chief Administrative Officer of MRI of America,
added, "We are rapidly expanding our presence in the Stand-Up™
MRI market. We are already in three states, and are planning
to purchase an additional 17 Stand-Up™ MRI machines from
FONAR, making us FONAR's largest Stand-Up™ MRI customer.
Four more centers are going into the DFW area as part of our
commitment to install a total of twenty Stand-Up™ MRI
centers throughout the Southwest."
"In
addition to its diagnostic superiority," said Eric Stetenfeld,
Chief Operating Officer of MRI of America, "the Stand-Up™
MRI is also by far the most patient-friendly MRI scanner on
the market, and has peaked a strong interest from a wide spectrum
of practitioners within the DFW medical community. Although
the name of the scanner, Stand-Up™ MRI, clearly suggests
that patients are scanned standing up, approximately 85% are
scanned sitting down. The seated position allows us to scan
claustrophobic patients, large athletes, the elderly and small
children - patients who would otherwise have difficulty with
the confined spaces of traditional MRI scanners. In the past,
many of these patients had to be sedated or anesthetized, or
were simply unable to tolerate the MRI exam under any conditions.
The Stand-Up™ MRI has eliminated these problems. It is
very gratifying to be able to bring this revolutionary technology
to the people of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and to help improve
their standard of health care."
Mr.
Conger concluded, "Our management is very pleased with
the performance of the Stand-Up™ MRI product, as well
as the quality of the FONAR installation teams through these
first few installations. We are looking forward to working with
FONAR for many years to come."
Raymond
Damadian, president and founder of FONAR said, "We are
pleased with MRI of America's aggressive development plans and
look forward to helping them meet their goals."
