FONAR EXHIBITED UPRIGHT MRI AT
54th ANNUAL MEETING OF THE CONGRESS OF NEUROLOGICAL SURGEONS;
Company Actively Participating in Industry-Leading Spine Care
Trade Shows
MELVILLE,
NEW YORK, October 22, 2004 - FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR),
The MRI
Specialist™,
exhibited its Upright™ MRI for the first time at the 54th
Annual Meeting of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS)
in San Francisco, October 18-20. Over 2,000 neurological surgeons,
orthopedic surgeons, primary care physicians, gerontologists,
radiologists and other medical professionals attended the CNS
Meeting and Trade Show.
At
its booth at the CNS Trade Show, FONAR demonstrated the multi-positioning
capabilities of its Upright™ imaging system. In addition,
the company sponsored daily presentations by J. Randy Jinkins,
M.D., F.A.C.R., Professor and Director of the Department of
Radiology Neuroradiology and Neuroimaging Research at the State
University of New York at Brooklyn. In his presentations, Dr.
Jinkins’ discussed the benefits of pre- and post-operative
Position™ MRI (pMRI™) scans and highlighted the
advantages of Upright™ MRI scans versus traditional, recumbent
MRIs.
Raymond
V. Damadian, president and founder of FONAR Corporation, said
“Neurological surgeons want and need the most comprehensive
information available about their patients’ conditions
in order to devise the optimal surgical and/or treatment plan
for them. These specialists are well aware of the critical effects
of body weight and patient posture on the spine, and they have
been eager to see these effects on their patients’ MRI
images. With the FONAR Upright™ MRI, they now can scan
their patients’ bodies in various positions, revealing
injuries that were previously hidden in traditional (recumbent)
MRI scans and factor this information into their surgical and
treatment strategies.”
Sol
Ginzburg, Vice President of Sales, added, “In 2004, FONAR
decided to target surgeons, particularly orthopedic and spine
surgeons, as a key sales market for the Upright™ MRI.
Our marketing initiatives in this area have included exhibitions
at the annual meetings of the American Association of Orthopaedic
Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.”
FONAR
will exhibit the Upright™ MRI at the 19th Annual Meeting
of the North American Spine Society, October 27-29 in Chicago.
Dr.
Damadian concluded, “We are pleased with the increased
traffic we are seeing at our booths at these trade shows. They
are proving to be excellent sources for new sales leads for
us.”

and most experienced MRI manufacturer in the industry. FONAR
introduced the world's first commercial MRI in 1980, and went
public in 1981. Since its inception, the Company has installed
nearly 300 MRI scanners worldwide. FONAR's stellar product line
includes the Upright™ MRI (formerly known as the Stand-Up™
MRI), the only whole-body MRI that performs Position™
imaging (pMRI™) and scans patients in numerous weight-bearing
positions, i.e.standing, sitting, in flexion and extension,
as well as the conventional recumbent position. With over 100,000
