FONAR TO DISCUSS ITS GLOBALLY
RENOWNED MRI TECHNOLOGY AT
ANNUAL LONG ISLAND LIFE SCIENCES INDUSTRY SUMMIT
MELVILLE,
NEW YORK, May 4, 2006 - FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR),
The Inventor of MR Scanning™, said today that it has been
invited by The Long Island Life Sciences Initiative (LILSI) and
the Center for Biotechnology, a New York State designated Center
for Advanced Technology, to present at the 2006 Life Sciences Industry
Summit on Long Island on May 4, 2006.
FONAR
was founded on Long Island in 1978 by Dr. Raymond V. Damadian,
presently president and chairman of the Company. Today, FONAR has
a total of 387 employees, of which 294 are based on Long Island.
The Company's growing local presence is reflected in the Life Sciences
Industry Summit's central theme, "Building Critical Mass:
Long Island at the Tipping Point," which addresses the emergence
and expansion of a vibrant life sciences community in the region.
The
Summit intends to highlight the importance of the retention of
expanding companies which are vital to the
future success of the life sciences community in the region. The
Summit will showcase companies, such as Melville, Long Island-based
FONAR, which are poised for exponential growth as leaders in life
sciences research and development.
Presenting
on behalf of FONAR will be Jay S. Dworkin, Ph.D., MRI Product Marketing
Manager. Dr. Dworkin, who has been with the Company for more than
22 years, has been instrumental in the continued growth of and
reliance of the medical community on the FONAR UPRIGHT™ MRI,
the world's first and only MRI machine to perform whole-body MRI
scans with Position™ imaging (pMRI™) and scan patients
in numerous weight- bearing positions. Dr. Dworkin also will discuss
other medical innovations that leverage FONAR's global leadership
in MRI technology.
Since
joining FONAR in 1984, Dr. Dworkin has worked in several scientific,
product development and marketing positions. His article on MRI
gradient performance appeared in the January 1998 Clinical Magnetic
Resonance Society's Vision newsletter. He is the author of a chapter
entitled "The Technology and Potential of Open MRI" in
the textbook Open-Field MRI published by Springer-Verlag in 2000,
and a co-author of a chapter
entitled "Upright, Weight-bearing, Dynamic-kinetic MRI of
the Spine" in the textbook Spinal Restabilization Procedures
published by Elsevier Science in 2002.
Dr.
Dworkin earned his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University
of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He also earned a Master of Science degree
in Management from the Harriman School of Management and Policy
at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Prior to joining
FONAR, Dr. Dworkin was a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Physics Department
at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. His research was performed
at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois and focused
on measuring the magnetic moments and other properties of exotic
subatomic particles.
About the Life Sciences Summit:
The Summit brings together approximately 250 life sciences industry
leaders each year to explore issues of strategic importance to
industry growth including emerging companies and technologies,
financing issues, regulatory affairs, and business development
opportunities. Interactive panel sessions will be complimented
by an opening plenary, "The Bioethical Challenges of the
21st Century" featuring speakers from Alden March Bioethics
Institute at SUNY Albany, and Luncheon keynote, Richard Worzel,
C.F.A, a leading North American futurist and best selling author
who will present, "The View from 2030: The Future of Life
Sciences." A
closing plenary entitled, "Mobilizing
the
Regions Assets to Find a Cure for Debilitating Diseases," will
be presented by Father Tom Hartman, Founder, Thomas Hartman Foundation
for Parkinson's Research & Celebrity Partner in The God Squad.
The May 4th event will take place at the Hilton Long Island/
Huntington, and will conclude with a networking reception. For

About FONAR
FONAR® was incorporated in 1978, making it the first, oldest
and most experienced MRI manufacturer in the
industry. FONAR introduced the world's first commercial MRI in
1980, and went public in 1981. Since its inception, FONAR has
installed hundreds of MRI scanners worldwide. Their stellar product
line includes the FONAR UPRIGHT™ MRI (also known as the
Stand-Up™ MRI), the only whole-body MRI that performs
Position™
imaging (pMRI) and scans patients in numerous weight-bearing
positions, i.e. standing, sitting, in flexion and extension,
as well as the
conventional lie-down position. The FONAR UPRIGHT™ MRI
often sees the patient's problem that other scanners cannot
because
they are lie-down only. With nearly one half million patients
scanned, the patient-friendly FONAR UPRIGHT™ MRI has a
near zero claustrophobic rejection rate by patients. A radiologist
said, "FONAR UPRIGHT™ MRI - No More Claustrophobia
- The Tunnel Is Gone." As another FONAR customer states,
"If the patient is claustrophobic in this scanner, they'll
be claustrophobic in my parking lot." Approximately 85%
of patients are scanned sitting while they watch a 42" flat
screen TV. FONAR's latest MRI scanner is the FONAR 360, a room-size
recumbent scanner that optimizes openness while facilitating
physician access to the patient. FONAR is headquartered on
Long Island,
New York, and has approximately 400 employees.
