FONAR COMPLETES INSTALLATION
OF SUBSIDIARY'S
4TH STAND-UP MRI, FIRST IN FLORIDA
MELVILLE,
NEW YORK, April 12, 2004 - FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR),
The MRI Specialist™, announced today the opening of Stand-Up
MRI of Boca Raton, P.A. in Boca Raton, Florida. Stand Up MRI
of Boca Raton is the fourth Stand-Up™ MRI facility managed
by Health Management Corporation of America (HMCA), FONAR's
physician and diagnostic services management subsidiary. The
new facility is located at 9080 Kimberly Blvd. in Boca Hamptons
Plaza, Boca Raton, Florida [(561) 470-1890].
Raymond
V. Damadian, M.D., president and chairman of FONAR, said, "We
are delighted to have our fourth HMCA-managed Stand-Up™
MRI scanning center up and running. We expect that before too
long it will be adding to the success of the first three. Last
month, our Islandia, New York facility, the first HMCA managed
Stand-Up™ MRI facility, completed over 450 scans; the
Bensonhurst, New York facility, the second, completed over 400
scans for the first time; and the Staten Island, New York facility,
the most recent of the three, completed over 200 scans. Our
plan is to complete Stand-Up™ MRI upgrades at as many
HMCA-managed sites as possible." The new Boca Raton installation
is an upgrade of the HMCA-managed facility in Deerfield Beach.
"The
Boca Raton area has a very sophisticated medical community,"
continued Dr. Damadian, "so we expect the physicians will
quickly embrace the new diagnostic technology that only the
Stand-Up™ MRI can offer." The Stand-Up™ MRI
is the only whole-body MRI that allows patients to be scanned
in normal upright, weight-bearing positions, either standing
or sitting, as well as in any other position in which the patient
is symptomatic. The Stand-Up™ MRI has detected pathology
that was missed on conventional lie-down MRIs, pathology that
could never be detected on a lie-down scanner.
"I
also expect that the residents in the Boca Raton area will be
very happy to have the Stand-Up™ MRI in their community,"
continued Dr. Damadian. "The unique magnet design of the
Stand-Up™ MRI makes it dramatically different from any
other MRI scanner. Patients are typically scanned in a comfortable
seated position watching a 42" flat-screen TV. There is
nothing in front of the patient's face or overhead to create
the "closed-in" feeling that is typical of other MRIs,
even some Open MRIs. The people of Boca will be relieved to
know that should they ever need an MRI scan, they have the most
patient-friendly MRI in existence in their own backyard."
The
Stand-Up™ MRI is the world's only whole-body MRI scanner
with the ability to perform Position™ Imaging (pMRI™),
i.e. patients can be scanned standing, sitting, bending or lying
down. Because of its unique top-open and front-open magnet design,
the Stand-Up™ MRI is remarkably spacious and non claustrophobic.
