FONAR INSTALLS STAND-UP MRI #35
AT DELAWARE RADIOLOGY
CENTER THAT PROVIDES `RADIOLOGY WITH TODAY'S TECHNOLOGY'
MELVILLE,
NEW YORK, March 24, 2004 - FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR),
The MRI Specialist™, announced today that it has completed
the installation of a Stand-Up™ MRI at Diagnostic Imaging
Associates (DIA), a radiology practice in Wilmington, Delaware
known for its cutting edge technology. The center, located in
the Brandywine Office at 3206 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware
[302-654-5300], has had a positive response from patients and
physicians since it opened for business a few weeks ago. FONAR
has now announced 35 completed installations of its Stand-Up™
MRI.
Dr.
Ka-Khy Tze, neuroradiologist and co-director of DIA, said, "Our
practice maintains the highest standard of patient care while
keeping `Radiology with Today's Technology' in the forefront.
We are very excited about the weight-bearing and Position™
Imaging (pMRI™) capabilities provided by the FONAR Stand-Up™
MRI. The FONAR Stand-Up™ MRI fits in well with our desire
to take advantage of the latest state-of-the-art technology
in providing our patients and referring physicians with the
best medical imaging services in Delaware."
Dr.
Joseph R. Peacock, radiologist and co-director of DIA, said,
"Only our Stand-Up MRI allows our diagnosticians to obtain
MRI images of patients in upright, weight-bearing positions,
in addition to conventional lie down positions. Until now, MRI
images were typically acquired with the patient lying down in
a confined space and forced to tolerate loud noises. Position™
Imaging (pMRI™) represents a revolution in imaging where
patients can be imaged in virtually any position in which they
may experience symptoms, e.g. pain in the back while bending
forward or backward, or pain in the knees while standing in
the normal weight-bearing position."
"The
Stand-Up Open MRI, as we call it, is the first of its kind operating
in Delaware," continued Dr. Tze. "A important aspect
of the Stand-Up Open MRI is that it is truly an open MRI machine
that patients actually walk into. In contrast to older machines
boasting `open' construction on the basis of slightly increased
chamber space, this MRI machine has nothing in front or above
the patient - except for a 42 inch flat-screen TV for the patient
to enjoy. In addition, the FONAR Stand-Up™ MRI has new
technology that has greatly reduced noise, so there is no need
for earplugs or mufflers. The FONAR Stand-Up™ MRI marks
the end of the notoriously claustrophobic, loud experience of
having an MRI."
