FONAR SELLS 65TH STAND-UP MRI
TO ILLINOIS
PHYSICIAN GROUP, THEIR THIRD, WITH MORE PLANNED IN 2004
MELVILLE,
NEW YORK, February 25, 2004 - FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR),
The MRI Specialist™, announced today the sale of its 65th
Stand-Up(TM) MRI scanner for installation in Elk Grove Village,
Illinois. It is the third Stand-Up™ MRI purchase for the
same core of physicians and investors that already purchased
Stand-Up™ MRIs for Hazel Crest, Illinois (June 2003) and
Sarasota, Florida, (December 2003). The group plans to purchase
several more Stand-Up™ MRIs in 2004.
Mr.
Bear Roalsen, a key spokesman for the group, said, "We
have a great deal of experience in the orthopedic surgery business,
and we've carefully researched FONAR's Stand-Up™ MRI.
The unique and clear-cut advantages of the Stand-Up™ MRI
over conventional MRI scanners has lead us to adopt an aggressive
business plan. We are so convinced of this product that we have
gone ahead and purchased two more Stand-Up™ MRI scanners
even before we've begun to install the first. We believe that
when patients and physicians learn of the benefits of Upright™
Imaging, they will want to try it."
"Upright™
Imaging," continued Mr. Roalsen, "provides physicians
information, sometimes critical information, about their patients
that no other modality can provide. Upright™ Imaging is
not a novelty, it's a necessity. We are looking forward to bringing
this exciting technology to the people of the greater Chicago
area."
David
Tulsiak, M.D., medical director for the group said, "Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (MRI) has been a
marvelous technology, capable of visualizing soft tissue in
extraordinary detail. However, with the advent of Upright™
Imaging (pMRI™), it has been discovered that recumbent-only
MRI scans often miss detecting causes of back pain. Since approximately
50% of all MRI scans are of the spine, the Stand-Up™ MRI
has a huge diagnostic, and therefore competitive, advantage
over recumbent-only MRI scanners."
Mr.
Roalsen continued, "Many have argued that while Open MRI
technology did much to improve patient comfort, it was lacking
in diagnostic ability. The FONAR Stand-Up™ MRI, however,
is the first MRI scanner to excel in both categories. It is
by far the most patient-friendly MRI and its unique ability
to do upright, weight bearing, and Position™ Imaging makes
it the most unique and versatile diagnostic MRI scanner on the
market."
Dr.
Tulsiak concluded, "Granted, standard `supercon' MRI is
fine for a patient who is of average age, size and disposition
and who needs only a brain or abdomen scan. But if the patient
is elderly, pre-adolescent, claustrophobic, or in need of a
spine or extremity scan, then the FONAR Stand-Up™ MRI
is clearly the best choice, hands down."
David
Terry, Senior Vice President and Corporate Secretary at FONAR,
said, "It is most gratifying to see this group purchase
their third Stand-Up™ MRI. Based on years of experience
and success, they have put together a well thought-out business
plan for bringing FONAR Upright™ Imaging technology to
many areas of the country. We look forward to working with them
and wish them great success."
