FONAR STAND-UP MRI #33 INSTALLED
IN SOUTH TEXAS
CUSTOMER SAYS `THE PROOF IS IN THE PICTURE'
MELVILLE,
NEW YORK, March 1, 2004 - FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR), The
MRI Specialist™, announced today that it has completed
the installation of a Stand-Up™ MRI in McAllen MRI Center,
an independent imaging center in south Texas. The center, which
is located at 320 North McColl Road in McAllen, Texas [956/687-9636],
has enjoyed a steady increase in patient volume since it opened
for business a few months ago.
Shawn
De La Garza, CEO of McAllen MRI Center said, "One of the
reasons why McAllen MRI Center is so successful is that our
staff is highly proficient in serving our patients and referring
physicians. But the primary reason for our success is the unique
ability of the Stand-Up™ MRI to scan patients in weight-bearing
positions."
Mr.
De La Garza explained, "We ask our patients, `In what position
is your problem most painful? Can you tolerate a few minutes
in that position while we scan you to find out why you have
pain?' Most patients are quite willing to be scanned in their
position of pain. In some cases other MRIs failed to find the
problem, but now with the FONAR Stand-Up™ MRI, `The Proof
is in the Picture'."
Mr.
De La Garza added, "We are also finding that most of the
claustrophobic and obese patients in the area in need of an
MRI exam are choosing the FONAR Stand-Up™ MRI. In fact,
quite a few patients have traveled for as long as 4 hours to
have their exams done here. It's clear that the FONAR Stand-Up™
MRI is the most patient-friendly MRI in the marketplace."
"We
are very pleased," continued Mr. De La Garza, "with
the way that patients and referring physicians are
accepting this new technology. I'd say we use Position™
Imaging (pMRI) on about half of our patients. We are re-educating
our referring physicians about Position™ Imaging and other
features of the Stand-Up™ MRI that are simply unavailable
on other MRIs, such as full range-of-motion studies, weight-bearing
exams and even stress weight-bearing exams. Remember the old
joke where the patient says, `Doc, it hurts when I do this'
and the doctor replies, `Then stop doing it.' Well, with the
FONAR Stand-Up™ MRI, when the patient says, `Doc, it hurts
when I do this,' we say, `We're sorry but do you think you can
do that for an MRI scan?'"
Raymond
Damadian, president and founder of FONAR said, "We work
hard to build a product that will make our customers successful,
so it's gratifying to see another FONAR Stand-Up™ MRI
scanning center come up to speed so quickly."
The
Stand-Up™ MRI is the world's first and only MRI scanner
that performs weight-bearing, Position™ Imaging (pMRI™),
where the patient can be scanned sitting, standing, bending,
in flexion and extension, or in the conventional recumbent position.
With Position™ Imaging, patients can be scanned in their
positions of pain or other symptoms. This allows for the detection
of pathology that could go undiagnosed on conventional MRI scanners.
